    Okay, i read the comments.
Pitchfork (for whatever its worth) is saying that the two nights at the APW festival will be the only Radiohead shows in NYC.
Does this mean anything to you one way or another?
    1:01 am
So I realize I haven't posted on here for quite a while, but i need to ask

Who's interested in going to Coachella East (Liberty State Park, NJ)?

If so, which of the 2 days? (yes, i know there are three days, but i will only go to one of the two nights that radiohead are headlining. cmon no one wants to see jack johnson)

    http://www.apwfestival.com/event/lineup

90 bucks a day... but i mean, its radiohead
Right now I was thinking day 1, cause the only other decent bands the second day are the roots (who ive seen a million times) and metric and the kings of leon (who are notoriously touch and go)
Day 1 has the Go Team, who i've always wanted to see live, and all the stuff ive heard and seen from their live show is awesome. i've also seen CSS who were a danceable good time, and Girl Talk (which was possibly one of the most fun shows I've ever been to). Mates of State are usually good as is Andrew Bird, and I've heard really good things about Little Brother.

But still, who knows if I'll even be in NY come August... jeez thats a weird thought

They should really add some bigger heavyweights to the bills (supposedly they will, but i bet theyll be shitty bands.) Wouldn't it be great if the extra bands they added were Sonic Youth, Nas, Dinosaur Jr, Broken Social Scene, Saul Williams, The Constantines, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ghostface! haha, in my dreams

won't you shut the fuck up, im just trying to watch the band
The Brooklyn What cut our first real EP (maybe turning into a full length?) last thursday. I'm listening to the rough unmastered tracks right now, and they sound damn good, even without us mixing it yet. I can only imagine how good it will sound once its done.

If you hadn't heard, we're getting booked all over the place. We're playing The Delancy this monday @ 9. If you're 21, u best be there. At the moment we're also gonna play 3 shows in a span of 5 days in August, the newest addition being The Knitting Factory on August 13th, which should be really fun. After that I will have played both the NYC Knitting Factory and the LA one (from my LA days with The Tape Deck Disaster.) Exciting stuff

    In short...
    The shows were amazing...

They played 2 and 1/2 of the songs on my never heard wishlist ("I'm Always in Love" + "Pot Kettle Black") They also did a version somewhere in between "Kamera" and "Camera", hence the 1/2. They also did "Outtasight (Outta Mind)" which would have been on the list had i remembered it.

Maybe the best show I've ever seen-
I'll let the review do the rest of the talking...

    http://www.filter-mag.com/index.php?id=14824&c=11

And as always, I'm working at the most inopportune hours, so outside of these shows (when i would simply bite the bullet and go into work with 2 hours of sleep), I've been on the usual opposite schedule, which at this point I've sort of accepted, and am just trying to adapt to.

Tomorrow's July 4th, that should be nice

disclaimer: this is not meant to be ironic- you really don't have to read this if you don't want to
i just wrote an entire entry about finishing "High Fidelity" and a run-in i had today on the street, and all sorts of shit like that, and i erased it, realizing that its not the kind of thing anyone would read and care about.

I don't mean that to sound like a jerk or anything. If we had a conversation about it, it would be interesting, i think, but not like this really.

One part, I think, about why i'm feeling so shitty right now is that my life doesn't run anything like anyone else's clock. Fuck, it doesn't even run with any consistency day to day. I went in to work at Noon today, and i'm about to go to sleep now, so i can get up at 4:45AM. I try to figure out plans with friends and yet i still have barely seen anyone much lately, because I work at the exact wrong times all the time.

I need to fall in love... or at least find someone worth developing an interest in. In LA, i had infatuation, that was definitely something. Now I don't even have anything worth stupidly obssessing over.

I think playing our show at Freddy's will be great though (july 8th for those who don't know), and so will seeing Wilco, twice next week. These are things I need to look forward to.

ugh i hate when i use live journal like its supposed to be used.

my review of the brakesbrakesbrakes show at Mercury Lounge. Amazingly awesome time. Check it out if you so choose- despite that in my delirium of the last 2 days, it does have a handful of grammatical errors, that my editors neglected to correct, oh well...

I had my first day of work. It was nice, i'm sure ill tell more about it later, once it kicks into full gear. Right now though I'm in a very weird position. I came home from my first day at work, my legs are tired. We had a nice dinner, but now I'm stuck in my parent's room (cause currently their computer is the only one with internet) while my parents and our neighbor yell at each other about our other neighbors or something. This is way uncomfortable. These walls are paper thin and everyone hears every little sound.

The Donald and Ivana were not there (even though every other Trump family member seemed to be), that was a dissapointment.

Except other strange and interesting celebs on the guestlist included Joan Rivers (who gave a explitive filled speech at the rehersal dinner), the lady who played wonder woman, and 2 other TV personalities whose names i don't remember. When I see them on TV in the coming weeks I'll alert you.

Regardless, it was a nice weekend with lots of extravagent free food (clams, lobster, salmon... gotta love New England.) The music was palatable, and I like dancing so I'm not hard to please. Met some nice girls but one in particular was a "stage 5 clinger" for those who are Wedding Crashers fans. My friend Annemarie was there with her family too so it was really nice that we had each other to hang out with all weekend. She writes for the "L" magazine if any of you pick that up next to the box on your corner where you pick up the Village Voice. Its a really good magazine and she's "The Downtown Chef"- the cooking column. She has her own sandwich business so if you're near "Chelsea Market" anytime soon, pick up one of her sandwiches. She's a great person and I give her mad props for waking up everymorning a 6 to make sandwiches.

I can't wait til my friends start getting married cause it will the extravagence of a multiple day party, and it will be filled with people I care about. What could be better?

I was dreaming in the driver's seat when the right words just came to me
I've been sick on and off a lot lately. I've spent the last few days being sickly and going to my doctor and taking the prescription he gave me in hopes of being cured for this wedding. My parent's friends daughter is getting married to Trump's nephew.

Well, I'm off to Newport. I'll make sure to be healthier when I return, so we can have good times.

I'll say hi to The Donald for you. Fingers crossed that I can mack it to Ivana.

Siren fest initial lineup = not too impressed
NY Dolls are playing Siren and that should be kind of interesting. We Are Scientists are playing and thankfully Luke and Rachel will be around to enjoy them with me since no one else likes them. Noisettes I had wanted to check out at Coachella but didn't have a chance, and supposedly Matt and Kim are pretty fun. I dunno, I'm hoping they bust out a bunch of other awesome acts, which im sure they will, since this will most likely be the last year (cause of all the Coney Island destruction)...

    NY Dolls
    We Are Scientists
    Matt and Kim
    Dr. Dog
    Noisettes
    Lavender Diamond
    The Detroit Cobras
    Elvis Perkins
    The Twilight Sad

Anyone heard the new interpol single yet? It's called "The Heinrich Maneuver" and i like it simply because the refrain is (in that very funny Paul Banks accent) "How are things on the west coast?"

first few days home (not a very inventive title)
I can't get off my LA sleep cycle (going to sleep on average between 2:30 and 3:30) so now i'm going to sleep between 5:30 and 6:30, im starting to feel like Ed Norton in Fight Club, except I'm opting for Fresh Prince and The Cosby Show instead of infomercials. This lack of sleep mixed with my dad getting a cold has rendered me both sick and tired, but not sick-and-tired in the cliche phrase sense.

Been helping Dayton get his situation under control at his Dad's new awesome house, and doing all kinds of fun stuff.

Last night Jamie and Yelena and Neil and Neil's friend and I all went to the bar @ Sound Fix in Williamsburg.

But John I thought you didn't want to go to Williamsburg? There are the occasional exceptions. Plus having a friend with a car makes it even more palitable. Got a lot of free rock and roll stuff, there was an open bar, and the general consensus was that the place and the night was so nice that we didn't even feel like we were in Williamsburg. The night ended wonderfully with listening to records at Jamie's apartment.

I'm so happy to be back in Brooklyn even though California couldn't have been more fun. Whereas some people are scared of change, i'm the exact opposite: I embrace it and become very excited by it. I love the fact that through the coarse of 2007 (if all goes as scheduled) I will spend no more than 4 months in the same place.

Back to the point though. I was lying in bed last night, unable to sleep as the sun came up, and while sometimes that kind of thing might frustrate me, I was so content. I just kept thinking how full of possibility I feel like my life has become lately , especially when in Brooklyn, with a month before I start work.

    Coachella... Scarlett Johanson included
So i went to opening night of Coachella and words do not do it justice. My friend Brianne noted that it is like a carnival for adults. I feel like they asked every music fan what they're perfect festival would be and then they did it.
-5 stages and a dance "globe"
    -Big scientific/art exibits
    -Bycicle powered carnival type rides
-Air conditioned cool down tent with free computers/internet, free phone chargers, and seats, with video feeds of the concerts going on outside.
-Every kind of food you can imagine from lil mom and pop vendors- mexican, italian, greek, japanese, chinese, thai, vegetarian, middle eastern, carribean, central american.
-Large bottles of water for 2 dollars, and if u recycle 10 of them they give you a free bottle.
-The ability to hear any stage's music crystal clear from any distance (ie- we took a "break" during The arctic monkeys where we laid in the grass, and still heard "View from the Afternoon" as clearly as being front row.
-The beauty of the fucking desert
    -Free, relatively close parking
-Close campsites (which we didn't take advantage of, but probably will in the future, where you can still hear the concert perfectly from
-Everything really really fast and efficient. Nice young people working everything who were a lot of fun to talk to.

    But onto the music

-Got there round 2:30, saw TOKYO POLICE CLUB, who were MUCH better than when they were opening for Art Brut last year.
-Went over to the main stage to see PERRY FARREL's new band SATELLITE PARTY, who were suprisingly fun. They did a really good cover of "Stop" by JANE'S ADDICTION, which should mean a lot coming from a huge Jane's Addiction fan. He's still such a good frontman.
-Saw OF MONTREAL at the Outdoor stage who were really the only dissapointment of the day. They were preoccupied with their sound troubles, and only played one song I knew, which isn't even a particularly good one. I feel like theyd be a lot of fun at a small venue, but they just didn't know how to work with a crowd that large i think.
-Saw AMY WINEHOUSE, who we were taking bets on if she would actually show up. First off, she should not have been playing one of the small tents, because everyone was spilling out; way more ppl showed up to see her than expected. She did, rather sober in fact. and she blew the roof off. I'm so glad their is this ressurgance of great soul music, with her and Corrinne Bailey Rae primarily. She has fuckin incredible pipes, and she just wails, i feel like its similar to hearing Aretha Franklin for the first time and just being amazed. Her band is top notch, a lot like The Roots- just really funky and fun with a great brass section. Matt and I are currently fighting over who will get to marry her... we are in 7th grade.
-Saw a lil of the Arctic Monkeys set. Nothin too incredible but they played the songs well. They closed with "A Certain Romance" which is my favorite by them, and it was good.
-The real point of seeing the 2nd half of the Arctic Monkey's set was to get a good spot for JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, which we did. As soon as all the young-ins who didn't give a fuck about JMC left, we swooped in. Managed to get about 30 yards from the baracades, which is incredible for a mainstage at a festival that big. Long story short (since im pretty sure the only people who like JMC reading this are Jamie and Neil) they were absolutely awesome. They were so loud and so nois, and haven't lost a bit since the 80s. Jim Reid is so sad all the time, but he was probably the happiest he could have been last night, he even made a couple of jokes, in his own sort of depressed way. They played a ton of songs and played them all reallllllly well, including a new song, that was as good as any of the classics. New album maybe? Its almost the end of the set and Jim Reid says "So I guess we're gonna do this." SCARLETT JOHANSON walks out on stage and sings back up on "Just Like Honey" which was cute.
-Saw most of INTERPOL'S set, which was WAYYYY better than when I saw them last year. I guess they've been able to play at a lot of bigger venues since that Jones Beach show, and they've drastically improved. They played a bunch of new songs, which the VP of radio @ Capitol has been playing a lot lately, and they sound good live too.
-Went to the Outdoor stage and saw SONIC YOUTH tear it up. Never seen em before, it was everything I hoped for. Thurston and Kim may have been the most energetic musicians i saw all day. They did an aweinspiring rendition of "100%" and played all my favorites from the new record "Incinerate", "Reena", "What A Waste", and a beautiful version of "Do You Believe in Rapture?" A lesson in real rock n roll, for sure.
-Closed out the night with Bjork, which was a total mind fuck as expected. She did "All Is Full of Love" and it was really relaxing. She had a 15 woman brass section/chorus. Just as I thought she was playing too many new slow numbers she did "Army of Me" and everyone was reenergized. We walked back to the car as she played "Hyperballad"

what a good day. there will be pictures on facebook soon, i'm gonna go relax at the pool.
    -John Nap

oh yeah, i feel bad cause this has totally overshadowed my thursday night concert going experince which was seeing MC Lars @ The Knitting Factory. Go see him, if he plays near you. Even if you've never heard him b4 (which most ppl at the show hadn't) you will have the BEST time. Its like, part hip hop show, part comedy act, part rock concert, part visual art experiment.

    Perfect
As I looked up to see Josh's alarm clock slowly changing its glow from 11:59 to 12:00, as the days went from April 17th to 18th, James Murphy's multilayer computer-altered voice dripped out of the speakers...

"Sound of silver talk to me
makes you want to feel like a teenager
then you remember the feelings of
    a real live emotional teenager
    then you think again."

Here's to being an adult (huh?)

Lots been happenin as always lately. Capitol had extra tix so Josh and I got to go see Corinne Bailey Rae and John Legend which was awesome (more for Corinne, but Legend was fine too.) Corinne covered Zeppelin's "Since I Been Loving You", which was cool, and Legend and his band did an absolutely incredible version of the Beatles' "She's So Heavy." Corinne's Guitar/vocal/songwriting abilities floor me. At one point she attempted to lead the audience in clapping in a new song that was in alternating time signatures. What a cool ambitious and totally different sounding lady.

Went to another Filter party where they screened the new movie from the Shaun of The Dead guys, "Hot Fuzz." Those two guys and the director were there and they seemed pretty cool. The movie's the funniest thing i've seen so far this year.

The Tape Deck Disaster [me+jeff+amanda] played another show @ The Knitting Factory. People came out, everyone enjoyed. Here was the (short) set list...

Hey, buy your ticket to rock the bells
The presale is now until friday evening
    The password is Guerilla
The ticket's 83 bucks b4 surcharges which is more than worth it, but sadly Nas and MF Doom are not listed in the lineup. Could this be a typo, or will they not be there? regardless it will still be worth it for Rage and The Roots alone. And Mos Def. And Public Enemy. And EPMD. oh yeah and Wu Tang's gonna be there. goddamn im so excited. I bought my ticket this morning.

This summer's gonna kick so much ass, even tho i don't have a job yet, which is starting to worry me. BUT Luke's in the process of putting down money on a place on 113th & Broadway, and Rachel has a car so she can come and visit, and of course seeing everyone back in Brooklyn who I miss dearly, will all be amazing.

This weekend my parents are coming to visit me for the first time out here on the west coast, and we're goin out to Laguna Beach. A weekend of much needed rest and relaxation awaits... but I may be getting sick, which would suck.

Point is its almost 2:30 in the morning and I have to be at Filter in the morning. I should get some sleep.

    Goodnight,
    John Nap
